Get access to clinical assessments and the right mental health support for your needs
Music Mental Health Assessment Service
Through this service we offer a free clinical mental health assessment and advice for people in music.
Delivered by our Clinical Partner BAPAM, the music mental health assessment service helps people in music find the right care for their needs.
More about this service
The service includes an online self-assessment form which is reviewed by a qualified mental health practitioner. If more information is needed, a consultation with a BAPAM clinician will be scheduled with you within 10 days, this usually takes place online, or sometimes by telephone or in person — depending on what is best.
Once your assessment is complete you will be signposted to the right service for you, this could include a Music Minds Matter supported service, or guidance and support to access the right care from the NHS or another provider.
The service is funded by Music Minds Matter so it’s free for people in music.

Low cost and free care
Music Minds Matter provides low cost and free access to mental health care for people in music where there is a current significant mental health need for care in that area amongst people in music, and where current NHS support cannot usually be provided within three months.
This section explains what care is currently on offer.
What care can currently be accessed
Six sessions of fully funded counselling delivered by our Clinical Partner BAPAM for those in music who can’t afford counselling independently. The counselling is intended to address music work related issues, this could include work related stress and anxiety related to work matters, where your symptoms are affecting your ability to do your music work.
The counselling is not able to address wider matters not related to your music work and cannot support with complex mental health needs including addiction, eating disorders and complex diagnoses, however the Music Mental Health Assessment service will be able to direct you to the right support for other matters, such as bereavement etc.
Can we support you?
Like many charities, we have to have clear rules in place to make sure our funds go towards those we are here to support — people working in music, and those in music who most need our help. Our rules are set to enable us to benefit as many people as we can. We are continually seeking financial support that would enable us to support more people.
Our current rules are that we will provide funded care to:
People working in music who have been earning 40% or more of their income from one or more types of supported work in music for at least two years.
Regrettably, at this time, due to very high demand we are not able to support those earning above £40,000 and those with more than £10,000 in savings.
How can you access this service?
You will need to have an assessment through our clinical partner BAPAM. If they believe one of the Music Minds Matter funded care packages is right for your needs, they will explain this and provide a link for you to check your financial eligibility for the support.
You cannot apply directly for this service from Music Minds Matter.
